Indioblu Design Photo Submission Tips

Photo Selection Tips

Although we use a state of the art laser process, the final product will only look as good as the photo submitted. The best photo to submit is one that you treasure as having special meaning to you. Beyond that, clear photos without scratches or ceases usually work well. Photos with "busy" backgrounds don't turn out as well and based on our experience, we might suggest that we remove or blur the background. If you cannot see the edges of objects or individuals clearly in the actual photograph, they will be even less visible in a grayscale image created by the laser. For images with a dark edge, we usually recommend either lightening the background or removing it and applying a 'glow' behind the dark areas to help define their edges. We use a variety of Photoshop techniques to enhance and create a lasting image. We can whiten teeth and remove blemishes and wrinkles. Just let us know if you would like any features.

This unique product may require some cropping and composition. The photo may be enlarged or reduced to create the most beautiful end product possible in black, white and gray format.15-20 minutes of computer time is included in the price of your order, if additional time for digitally repairing images is required additional charges may be incurred. Most photos are great for engraving but if older, scratched photos are submitted they may require additional work. We will contact you in advance; if we think additional work is needed to produce a better product.

Please only send photos or artwork you have the rights to. We will not use any copyrighted material without written permission from the copyright holder. By submitting an image you are stating you have the rights to the image and are giving us permission to reproduce the image for your use. The purchaser agrees to assume any liability resulting from actions or demands brought against supplier for any copyright infringements.

Resolution & Photo size:

The most common obstacle to overcome, is having too low of a resolution file for a successful engraving. We recommend a resolution of at least 300 DPI. You can always make a large image smaller without losing quality but you usually cannot make a small image larger with out losing quality or creating pixelation (smudged edges). Depending on the size of the product you choose the larger the picture the better. With that said, its better to not resize the image before either uploading or emailing any image. We will work with you to produce a beautiful image.

Scanning Tips:

If you choose to scan your photo, try to choose a photo image that does not have a textured paper, as the scanner will likely pick the texture up during the scan. We recommend scanning your image at a minimum of 300 DPI on a Grayscale setting. Only scan an original photograph. Copies are not as clear and will not produce the best end result. Please contact us if you are going to be scanning a photo that will cover more than one tile, as the DPI may need to be higher depending on the size of the original photo and the finished product. Set the size of the photo (in your scanner software) to the size of the tile you are ordering. Do not use your photo editing software to enlarge or increase the resolution of the image, (resampling). Send the scan to a software program such as Photo Impact or any photo program and then save it. We accept almost any image file but we recommend:
  • JPEG (jpg, jpeg)
  • Bitmap (bmp)
  • Photoshop (psd)
  • Tiff (tiff,tif)
Please contact us if you have any questions regarding the file formats.

Uploading or Emailing your photo Tips

Send the highest resolution or largest picture available. Attach your photos as an attachment if you choose to email your photos or upload right from the products page. Select the Browse button and select your photo from your hard drive. Confirm the right photo was selected, add text needed and select the add to cart button. Watch the bars on the bottom of the page for reference. Please be patient as this process may take several minutes depending on the file size of the image that you are uploading.

Mailing Tips:

If you decide to mail the photo, make sure you do not send us any "valuable", "irreplaceable" or otherwise "one of a kind images". Indioblu Design is not liable for the condition of any images, artwork or photographs that are sent to us, returned from us or otherwise lost in the mail or shipping. We suggest that you send us a copy of your image instead. Printed images or photographs that we receive that are creased or otherwise damaged may be deemed unusable for laser engraving and may require another picture sent. We strong suggest that you package your photo in either a proper photo-mail envelope or between two pieces of cardboard to give the envelope rigidity. Your photo will be returned with your order. Please provide text, tile size and email address or phone number with your picture. Be sure to include sufficient postage when mailing.
